I am always given apple sauce whenever or by whatever pantry I visit.   Kids like it.  Seniors like it as a snack with some crackers.  Here are some quick tips to help you utilize that applesauce while saving other key ingredients and avoiding adding processed sugars to your sauces.

Apple sauce helps make one heck of a spaghetti sauce!  It thickens the sauce and makes it stick to the pasta while adding that hint of sweetness some of us crave.   Simply empty one can of applesauce into the pan with one can of tomato or spaghetti sauce that has all of your regular seasonings and let it simmer until the color returns to resemble your regular sauce and consistency.

In chili, the applesauce adds an additional flavor level and can cool down the heat!

How do they get that peach cobbler so thick?  I don't know--probably corn starch, but we are simply going to use a can of apple sauce.  Make your normal cobbler, but set the juice aside.  Now fold in a can of apple sauce, then add the peach juice as needed to create a medium consistency that will leave the pie thick enough to slice once its baked!

Enjoy!  Now if you have any additional uses for applesauce, or if you have a black-eye pea fritter recipe let us know and we will share it with the rest of our pantry chefs.
